Rilsan ® Nylon 11 is a synthetic thermoplastic polyamide.

It was one of the first powders to be developed for metal coating and its use has increased significantly over the last twenty years. Rilsan ®, which is a unique product, has proved its worth, and its reputation has surpassed many expectations.
Nylon Coatings Technical Characteristics
Rilsan ® Nylon 11 powder is different from other polyamides:
- Relatively low melting points (186 degree Celsius) allow superior coating speeds compared to other thermoplastic or thermofusible powders;
- granulometry and viscosity are specially developed so that the material, in its molten form is sufficiently viscous so as not to drip, yet liquid enough to give good surface finish, good adhesion and covering, especially on corners;
- possibility of having a better finish by using water cooling immediately after the particles of powder have completely fused;
- abrasion resistance Rilsan ® is 500 to 600 times superior to the current best oven-baked paints;
- high-impact resistance eg repeated impact on a steel ‘Relsanised' tube (1.5mm in thickness) causes distortion in the tube without destroying the coating;
- chemical resistance: Rilsan ® resists organic acids, salts, alkalis, solvents, hydrocarbons, etc.

Rilsan ® Nylon 11 can be supplied in a wide range of attractive colours. Outstanding Physical and Mechanical Performance Rilsan ® Nylon 11 coating typically features:
• low moisture pick up
• good resistance to weathering
• high thermal resistance
• vibration absorbs capacity
In addition, Rilsan ®'s Nylon 11 high molecular weight ensures:
• outstanding abrasion resistance
• excellent impact resistance, and a very low friction coefficient, which improves the flow of fluids
• excellent flexibility
The Economics of Nylon 11 Coatings
The true value of a surface coating is a function of how well it performs the job for which it was originally considered.
Therefore, you must consider carefully the performance in conjunction with cost.
Since Rilsan ® Nylon 11 is a thermoplastic, it will offer enough savings in processing time to justify its use where thermoset materials are currently being applied at a lower cost per kilo. This time saving is made because Rilsan ® does not require post-curing as so thermoset materials. |
